Ok it wasn't really Jackson Pollock Day, it was more like Jackson Pollock half hour. I had the kids watch a youtube clip of Jackson Pollock painting and told them we were going to try to paint like him. We adjusted his painting style for the 3 - 5 year old group, putting paint in old dishsoap bottles instead of flinging it with a large brush. The kids loved it.

Hey, this looks FUN!
After painting, did you guys drink yourselves silly and then drive your car off the road to your untimely deaths? No? I guess that was just the real Jackson Pollock.
I love these paintings, I wish I could've been there!
ya, i tried to keep it age appropriate. that's the sad thing about artists - you can't go too much into their personal lives...
When is it going to be "Jessie Pond Day", where I will find you ignoring your children while sitting at the computer drinking a Coke?
I'm glad I have a great neighbor to show my child a little culture. Thank you thank you thank you.
This looks like a great experience! I wonder if I could get Ju to do it. Some how giving him a soap bottle full of paint doesn't sound like an activity that would please the neighbors.
jessie, i literally have thought of doing a jessie pond day - only i was thinking more along the lines of being very very clean.
ali - the paint is washable, and i watered it down, half paint, half water. that way when it rains it will just wash off the driveway.
Pam you're amazing. I feel like I don't even have the brain space to consider doing something like this, but I wish I did. I'm thinking you should create some sort of book that shows other people how to do this--an explanation/short bio about artists and then your ideas for letting kids imitate the art. I'll edit it for you--that's where any of my extra brain space goes after kids and Boot Scoot Bikes.
brilliants pampie.. wish you lived close so we could combine our creative genius to take over the world
love it! you teach the girls about art and culture and i'll take them to claires for lip gloss! that way i can buy my way out of feeling so guilty for not being so creative!
i mean i knew you were creative, but sincerely, you put the rest of us to shame.
That looks like some serious fun! I love all of the creative activities that you come up with. I want to come play at your house.

your comment makes me happy. you are very kind. if i ever do think i have something original going, you for sure can be my editor!! we'd make a good team.
hmm. i'll really have to think about this.
Looks so fun! Can you be my mom too?!?! Your kids are adorable!
I second katie's advice. I think you should put something together as well. You do a lot of great things with your kids.... many of them art related... I would be interested. In buying, participating, thinking that you are awesome.
I am glad that you didn't drive them to an untimely death.
