I went up to the children's room and laid out their astronaut costumes so that when they woke up they would see the costumes first thing, and therefore know that today we were going to pretend we were off to outer space.
And then at 4 a.m. my question as to if this is necessary was answered. L got up to use the bathroom, discovering his costume. He put it all on by himself, but then came in to ask Bryan to help him with the boots. I slept through most of this, but I did hear Bryan say, "Are you serious? He's got it on." Bryan got up with a very excited Liam and helped him put on the rest of the costume, let him look in the mirror, and then put him back to bed.
Even if the costumes are never worn again, the 4 a.m. wake up from a happy 4-year-old astronaut was fully worth it.
And of course today will include astronaut themed foods (Capri suns, freeze dried fruit, moon pies, and some astronaut ice cream, if I can find it.)
